How do I get to The Kromme Rijn region?

Due to its central location, the Kromme Rijn region can be reached in many ways - by car and public transport, but of course also by bicycle and by water. Are you travelling by public transport? Then it's useful to first consult 9292 for current travel times.

By car or public transport

Wijk bij Duurstede

Take exit 19 on the A12 (Bunnik, Wijk bij Duurstede).
For Wijk bij Duurstede, follow the signs Wijk bij Duurstede, N229. At the end of the N229, follow ‘Centrum’. If you’re coming from the Betuwe, you can cross the Lek with the ferry at Rijswijk.

Bus 41 runs at least every half hour from Utrecht to Wijk bij Duurstede. Bus 56 runs from Amersfoort via Zeist every half hour to Wijk bij Duurstede. 

Parking in the town centre is possible with a parking disc in the blue zone. On the marketplace, you can park for 1 hour and on Walplantsoen and Haven for 2 hours. The car park at Haven that's closest to the Rijn and Lek Mill is the one intended for long-term parking.

Bunnik

Take exit 19 on the A12 (Bunnik, Wijk bij Duurstede).
For Bunnik, follow the signs for 'Bunnik'. After crossing the rail track, follow the signs to the town centre. Parking in the town centre is possible with a parking disc in the blue zone.

Bus 41 runs at least every half hour from Utrecht to Bunnik (and then on to Wijk bij Duurstede). Bunnik has a train station and is on the Utrecht-Arnhem line.

Houten

You can reach Houten via exit 29 on the A27 (Houten). Parking in the centre is possible with a parking disc in the blue zone or in the parking garages. (The first two hours are free.) Houten has a train and bus station, so you have a wide choice of public transport to get back home easily. 

By water

Since the Kromme Rijn region is surrounded by water, the area is naturally easy to access via water too. The Lek can be crossed using the many ferries (for example at Beusichem and Wijk bij Duurstede). A line ferry also runs on the Lek along the New Dutch Water Line between Werk aan de Groeneweg (Houten), Werk aan het Spoel (Culemborg) and Fort Everdingen (Vianen). It’s also definitely worth using once when going by bike or on foot.

Wijk bij Duurstede can be reached with your own boat via the Rhine and the Lek. It has a beautiful port on the edge of the old town centre. From the port, you can walk directly into the cosy centre. The combination of excellent restaurants, specialist shops and beautiful historic buildings in the town centre guarantee a pleasant day of strolling and recreation. On the many terraces, you'll always find a place to enjoy the authentic atmosphere that makes Wijk so special.

By bike

Meadows with cows, orchards, rivers, country estates and lively villages are alternately passed when you visit the Kromme Rijn region by bicycle.

If you come from the Betuwe, you can cross the Lek with the ferry at the village of Rijswijk and continue on your way through the Kromme Rijn region via the dike (with a view over the water).

If you're on your bike from Utrecht in the direction of the Heuvelrug, the Kromme Rijn region should not be missed. Even if you're staying at a campsite on the Heuvelrug, the Kromme Rijn region is easily accessible by bicycle.
